Welcome to my website

Most human beings will find themselves at some time during their lives burdened with psychological problems or overwhelmed by outside events. These could include job loss, accidents, the loss of a loved one, conflicts with significant others or, as in the past two years, the pandemic. At these times, loss of energy, sleep problems, inability to work, exam anxiety, bodily symptoms or illness, depression and anxiety attacks are all common.

In these phases, psychotherapy can help. It can offer a chance to enter a process of deep change. It can also provide a path to effectively deal with problems, rediscover happiness and help to live a more fulfilling life.

Setting

We will meet in my office, centrally located in Vienna’s 1st district. We will get to know each other and search for an approach that fits your circumstances and needs.

Under certain conditions, I will offer sessions via video call or telephone.

About myself

I am a graduate of University of Vienna Medical School and in 1986 received my license as a general practitioner after 4 years of training in different hospitals. Concurrently, I completed psychotherapy training in Person Centered Psychotherapy in Vienna and have been licensed to practice since 1997.

I am a graduate of Harvard University, where I completed a master’s degrees in public health and a doctorate in health policy and management. Since 1998 I have been a professor of health policy and management at the University of Witten/ Herdecke. Since 2003 I have been the CEO of several health care organizations.

During the last years, I have been training as psychoanalyst (Analytic Psychology) at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zürich.

How I work.

Method and philosophy

For my therapeutic work, it is fundamental to offer you a safe space, which allows for development and change. This "space" refers not only to the physical space of my office but also represents an absolutely protected frame, or vessel, where anything can be thought, expressed and felt under the condition of absolute confidentiality. For therapy to be successful, it is essential to have a space to bring things that you can't bring anywhere else.

Psychoanalysis is the joint work of two human beings, client and analyst. We are meeting eye to eye with the goal of uncovering unconscious material and understanding their influence on your life. We will strive to strengthen your resources and use your potential for healing.

This is made possible through the observation and analysis of dreams, memories and everyday experiences and by talking about feelings, including those which arise between client and analyst. This will allow a deep process of change to begin and will help you live a more fulfilling life, enjoying more satisfying relationships.

Analytic Psychology has been developed by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung after his long collaboration with Sigmund Freud. It is a psychodynamic, psychoanalytic method of psychotherapy and assigns central importance to the unconscious and its exploration. Human beings are thereby considered as unique entities of body, mind and soul. Analysis can help people to become aware of and understand their feelings, experiences and the development of their personality. According to C.G. Jung, psychoanalysis relies upon a person's own resources and understands psychological problems as a call to necessary personal development, to individuation. At the end of the process, one reaches a better understanding of oneself, with more self-awareness and self-confidence, and with more empathy and a strengthened ability to work, love and enjoy. Within this development process, questions about the meaning of life and the role of spirituality will become important.
